Templates, dates, and metadata

Build names with tokens for names, numbers, dates, EXIF, and media information; understand missing values.

For Mac version 1.0 (release preparation) · Updated: October 31, 2026

Control names are described in English; key Japanese UI labels are included to help you find them in the current app.

Build names from file information

Template (テンプレート) expands tokens inside braces. Use the token picker (名前・連番・日付・撮影情報を挿入…) to search fields and inspect an example for the selected file.

TemplateExample with base-name scope
{n:3}_{name}001_写真.jpg
{parent}_{name}旅行_写真.jpg when the parent is 旅行
{mdate:yyyy-MM-dd}_{name}2026-10-30_写真.jpg for that modification date
{sdate:yyyyMMdd_HHmmss}_{n:3}20261030_143000_001.jpg for that available time

Name, number, and size tokens

TokenValue
{name}Current base name entering this rule
{ext}Extension without its dot
{fullname}Current complete name
{parent}Parent folder name
{n} / {n:4}Sequence using start/step; default 3 digits, or explicit width 4
{i}Zero-based preview position
{count}Total preview target count, not successful renames
{size} / {size:kb} / {size:mb}Size; units divide by 1024 and truncate fractions
{rand:6}Six random lowercase letters and digits
{uuid}UUID
{{ / }}Literal braces

Name tokens use the output of earlier rules. Random strings and UUIDs change when the preview is recalculated; review the final list before running.

Date tokens and formats

TokenSource
{date:yyyyMMdd}Current time
{cdate:yyyyMMdd}Creation time
{mdate:yyyyMMdd}Modification time
{sdate:yyyyMMdd}EXIF capture time, falling back to creation time
FormatExample
yyyy-MM-dd2026-10-30
yyyyMMdd_HHmmss20261030_143000
yyyy-MM-dd_HH-mm-ss2026-10-30_14-30-00

yyyy = year, MM = month, dd = day, HH = 24-hour hour, mm = minute, ss = second. Month MM and minute mm are different. Formatting uses your Mac’s current time zone.

The Add a date rule’s capture source falls back from EXIF to creation to modification. In contrast, the sdate template becomes empty if neither EXIF nor creation time exists.

EXIF, music, and video fields

InformationTokens
Camera / lens{exif:Make} / {exif:Model} / {exif:LensModel}
Exposure{exif:FNumber} / {exif:ISO} / {exif:FocalLength} / {exif:ExposureTime}
Dimensions{exif:Width} / {exif:Height}
Media{media:title} / {media:artist} / {media:album}
Track / year / duration{media:track} / {media:year} / {media:duration}

Available fields depend on the format and information actually stored in the file. A title may contain characters unsuitable for file names. Always check the final preview.

When fields are empty or braces remain

  1. Select the file and check Metadata (メタデータ).
  2. Check spelling and capitalization, such as {exif:Model}.
  3. If information is absent, use a template retaining {name} or a sequence.
  4. Check for duplicate names caused by empty fields.

Unavailable metadata becomes empty. Unknown tokens remain in braces to expose misspellings. Include {name} if you need to retain the original base name.
