Common questions
Where can I get the app?
The Mac App Store release is being prepared. The download button will appear in Get smartRenamer after release. Existing testers can install and update through TestFlight.
What can I do for free?
Rename up to 200 files per month and 30 per run. Previews are unlimited. Use replacement, numbering, Japanese text conversion, saved presets, and history. Pro lifts the limits and adds features including folder watching and scripting.
Why can some files not be renamed?
Check the row status and result details. The target may already exist, the name may be empty, access may be missing, or a file may have changed elsewhere. Adjust the scope or rules and wait for a fresh preview.
Will duplicate names overwrite files?
The planner checks collisions before execution. Add a number or use the automatic collision-resolution setting in collection options. Review the resulting names before running.
Why does the app ask for folder access?
macOS requires permission to read and rename files in the chosen folder. Select the folder you actually want to process. Access may need to be granted again after moving to another Mac.
Why is a kanji reading unexpected?
Kanji readings are estimated. Personal names, place names, and proper nouns may differ from the intended reading. Check the preview and add a replacement rule to correct particular words.
How do I undo a rename?
Use Undo in the execution result or open Run History and choose the run. Changes made to those files by other apps can prevent undo. Check details for any failures.
Why is Pro not restored?
Sign in to the Mac App Store with the Apple Account used for purchase, then restore purchases in the app. TestFlight test purchases and production purchases are handled separately.
Does folder watching process existing files?
It processes files newly added after watching starts. Existing files and nested folders are not processed. Save and select a preset, then test with a few files first.
Are files sent to a server?
Renaming runs locally on your Mac. File names and contents are not sent to the developer. See the privacy policy.
